The book is divided into four chapters and sixteen lessons. Each lesson focuses on one revolving theme which intertwines with other topics related to it.
Chapter 1 deals with emergence of the social sciences as a field of study distinct from the human natural sciences and humanities. The chapter focuses on the nature and concepts on the social sciences, the different disciplines within the social sciences, and the various methods employed in social science research.
Chapter 2 takes up the differing approaches and ideas utilized in the social sciences which are integral in the analysis and evaluation of various phenomena in the society as put forward by the great thinkers of modern times.
Chapter 3 Highlights the Filipino way looking at society to understand the uniqueness of the Filipino way of indigenizing concepts in the social sciences to cater to its needs.
And Chapter 4 explains how social sciences can be an important tool to address the pressing needs of the times-particularly, the challenges being faced by our society as a result of the globalizing world, modern technology, and environmental degradation to name a few.
